Words from Wednesday (Devotional)

I'm kinda tired today. . .

Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith. . . . And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. (1 Peter 5: 7-10)
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. (Psalm 103:2-5)

I’m tired tonight. I’m feeling a little discouraged. I don’t really feel like writing anything. So instead, I invite you to read and re-read these verses with me.

I was actually looking for some verse on how God asks us to come to him. My key word was “come.” I thought that would be a neat thing to write about.

These verses I stumbled on are a little off-track, but I liked what they had to say to me today. Instead of the word come, these verse seem to be telling me to remember. To remember who God is. To remember that He is a God who restores and supports. He strengthens and establishes. He forgives and redeems. He shows love and compassion. And He will satisfy me.

Maybe I just needed the reminder tonight; that these are all the things God does, and will continue to do, when I come to Him. Maybe I just need the reminder to be more intentional about coming to Him. Maybe I need to discipline myself to think on this more often because this is who God is. . .and this is exactly the kind of God I need.

So. . .I think I will re-read these verses a few times, and then I’m off for some much needed rest. . .
